I love Costco. Costco has the best prices for organic fruit. It’s a great place to buy eggs, milk, and sparkling water. I always stock up on toilet paper and tissues while I’m there, and I’ve even used their closet design services.
But are the oversized products that our favorite warehouses carry good for our waistlines?
An article published in Journal of Marketing Research found that people who shop at warehouses purchase 3,500 calories more each month than those who shop at traditional grocery stores, and the bulk of those calories come from pre-packaged snack foods. Yikes! That’s a lot of extra, empty calories.
I’m not suggesting you give up your membership to your warehouse club. I know I don’t plan to do so! However, keep this information in mind the next time you shop at one. Think whole foods when you go there: stock up on fresh or frozen fruits, meats, and vegetables. Stock up on your dry goods. Limit your snack purchases as much as you can, because we all know if you buy them, you will eat them.
We believe living healthy is living well, and we aim to support others as they work to stay beautiful, active and pain-free, no matter what their age.
